Sabbatical Prayers

Prayer is an essential part of staying connected and practicing Christ’s love during a Pastor’s absence. Below are some prayers we might say during this period.

For Pastor Cindy and Bill:

As a family of Christians, we proclaim our love for God, Jesus, and one another.

As a family of Christians, we send out our pastor and her husband on a journey of renewal and faith.

As a family of Christians we know that time and distance cannot separate us from the love we share for one another in Christ.

As a family of Christians, we pray, dear God, that you will bless Cindy and Bill during this sabbatical, so that they, and we, may grow in faith and commitment.

We ask this in the name of Christ, who connects us all in the Holy Spirit. Amen.

For Pastor Cindy while she is in South America (June 21st-July 25th) and for others who are traveling this summer:

_________, may Christ be with you on the journey you have chosen to make. May the lands in which you travel be without trouble or sorrow. May the Trinity protect you wherever you rest. May you encounter God in the people you meet and in the natural beauty that surrounds you. And when your time of travel is through, may you return home safely, truly renewed in mind, body and spirit. Amen.

For Our Church:

Spirit of Fire, kindle in our hearts a flame of love for our minister and all the members and friends of our beloved church. Teach us what it means to love one another other when we are apart, without malice or apathy or anxiety.

Bless this congregation and its leaders;
Your strength to direct them,
Your power to sustain them,
Your wisdom to guide them,
Your vision to light them,
Your ear to their hearing,
Your word to their speaking,

Your pathway before them.

May Christ our guide and comforter

surround our congregation and our minister

each step of this Sabbatical journey,
to aid us and enfold us,
day and night,

until we meet again. Amen.

Blessing from the Carmine Gadelica, adapted)

Please be assured that Pastor Cindy will be offering daily prayers for us.

Sabbatical Visitation Project

Sabbatical Visitation Project

Part of our Sabbatical time includes a chance to visit and learn from other churches in our area. Working in teams, we plan to use two of our Sundays to formally attend and evaluate other faith communities. No church will be held at DCC on these dates.

It is our hope that by visiting other church communities we will be able to enhance the quality of our own worship experience. What do other churches do well? What resources do they have and how do they make the most of them? What would improve our worship at DCC? What do we already do well! Your feedback is essential and will be shared at a special church visioning session in the fall.

WHEN:           Sunday, July 13th

                        Sunday, July 20th

(Or any time you are away and visit another church.)

Please see the sign up sheet in the sanctuary or contact one of the Sabbatical Committee Members to be part of a Visitation Team!
